LEADERSHIP AND STAFF RETREATS
Carefully curated half-day and full-day gatherings that build trust, sharpen vision, and turn your nonprofit’s mission and values into shared action for your board, leadership team, and staff.

What you can expect:
Each of our retreats are designed for your leadership and staff to connect, share ideas, surface concerns, and leave with something tangible they built together. Everyone who attends can expect to show up to something that genuinely reflects your nonprofit’s context, not a generic workshop. These are interactive, participatory experiences with everyone returning reenergized to support your mission and strengthen your nonprofit.

The steps to retreat success:
We start with a conversation to identify goals and begin our partnership.
We work with key people to design a meaningful experience.
We facilitate an engaging, interactive experience that builds connections.
We synthesize the day into concrete deliverables and next steps, with an option to continue the partnership through implementation.
Step-Up Retreats In Action:
Step Up's Angela Jenkins, CDP, CDE, Director of DEI Strategy & Implementation, recently guided the Rooted (link) team through a strategic workshop to define their core values. Rooted began the retreat with a broad list of 15 candidate values; looking to condensed that to a few core values.
For mission-driven organizations, narrowing down foundational beliefs is often a challenging process — there's rarely a shortage of things people care about. Through facilitated dialogue, reflection exercises, and Angela's strategic guidance, the team worked through the process of identifying what was truly non-negotiable — and what could be expressed through the pillars they chose.
By the end of the session, they had successfully condensed their list into a concise framework of 3–4 core pillars. More importantly, the team had shared ownership of those values — because they'd built them together.
Rooted's finalized values now serve as the operational and cultural foundation for the entire organization — guiding decision-making, shaping behaviors, and helping attract mission-aligned staff.
